I hope you all had a relaxing and restorative winter break. I wanted to highlight some upcoming events and meetings happening over the next several weeks. I also wanted to introduce our new hires who are starting later this month. We ended 2023 on such a positive and celebratory note, and I am hopeful for all that 2024 has in store for Countway Library. Happy New Year, and welcome back!
Upcoming Events
We will have the NLM Traveling Exhibit Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn! up on the first floor beginning January 9th. To go along with the exhibit, Matthew pulled together a series of events (one a week) for the full six weeks we are hosting the exhibit. The first event will take place on Wednesday, January 10th from 5-6:15pm. Thanks to Yasmina, we have a great webpage where all the events are listed: Graphic Medicine at Countway.
The exhibition will be on display on the first floor near the Huntington Avenue entrance and accessible to the public during open building hours.
Anatomy Day has been rescheduled to January 18th. For more info, see the Anatomy Day calendar page.

Introducing New Hires
Eric Brownell will be joining the Countway in the new year as the Catalog Update Specialist. This is a two-year term position focused on correcting, augmenting, and suppressing bibliographic, holdings, and item records for rare books (CHoM) and journals (GEN) so that our catalog accurately reflect our collection now that the BML has withdrawn their deposit. Eric is currently the Collections Development Librarian at the Wolbach Library at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., and he's interested in taking a slight career pivot back to a cataloging role. I hope you will join me in welcoming him when he arrives here on Tuesday, January 9!
Hepzibah Rapoport will be joining the Countway’s Center for the History of Medicine in January as its new Collections Documentation Specialist. This is a one-year term position focused on researching and documenting the complex provenance narratives associated with specific human remains stewarded within the Center’s Warren Anatomical Museum collection. This project is part of the larger effort at Harvard to better understand the remains in the University’s care. Hepzi is currently ending a term position as the Founding Research Collections Project Manager at the Boston Public Library, and the Center is looking forward to having her assist us with this important task. Please welcome Hepzi when she joins us on Tuesday, January 16th.
