Art@Countway
The Outreach Department is delighted to announce a new initiative at the library: Art@Countway! This effort aims to bring original work by Harvard Longwood Campus artists—through individual exhibits and collective shows—into the library's newly renovated spaces. We wish to celebrate the talent here on campus and provide opportunities for artists to share their work. We welcome exhibits which represent our campus' cultural diversity and vibrant artistic community focused on medicine and health.
Our first exhibit, "Scrubbing Through COVID" by Jonah Blumenthal, is now installed on the 1st floor and will run through the end of September. Thursday’s kick-off event, an artist talk with Jonah including poetry readings and a gallery tour, was a wonderful and well-attended success. We look forward to sharing more about this initiative as it grows and develops! Information about Jonah and our current exhibit can be found at Art@Countway.
Mission Grammar Visit—From Matthew Noe
On Monday, Countway Library, in partnership with the HMS Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership, hosted a group of about 40 young scholars from Mission Grammar for an afternoon of fun programming. A first for the library, to have a group of K-3 students exploring our space like this! The scholars, in three rotating groups, explored the Countway Community Garden with Yasmina and DICP's Robert Simpson, where they learned a little about gardening and painted kindness rocks; spent time with two of our Countway Cuddles partners, Sophie (w/ Anne) and Sasha (w/ Steve), where they learned and experienced the joy of therapy dogs firsthand; and were treated to an interactive story time with Drs. Tracy Yang and Kevin Simon from Boston Children's and Maria Trinidad from HMS Human Resources, where they read Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival and Just Ask by Sonia Sotomayor and Rafael Lopez. Each participant left with a copy of one of these two books of their own to keep!
This event is part of our continued partnership with Dr. Yang and DICP, which began with our Children & Youth Diversity and Health Literature Collection and continues to grow with participation from both Countway Collections and Outreach teams. We hope to welcome more young scholars to the library in the future!
Countway Resource Fair
Mark your calendars now for our most popular annual event! The Countway Resource Fair promotes emerging tech and helpful library services for the Harvard Longwood Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about some of the amazing tools that Countway has to offer and to meet vendors from our wide range of resources, all in a fun and festive atmosphere! Join us on Thursday, September 14th from 11 am to 4pm at Countway Library.
